CyberMontana

CyberMontana is a statewide Legislature-funded initiative that offers cybersecurity education for all residents. Our cybersecurity training includes security awareness training and workforce development for businesses and residents of Montana. Educational opportunities include programs for adults, high school students, and middle school students. Our goal is to increase the cybersecurity defensive posture for all of Montana.

Businesses of all sizes can benefit from our security awareness training and learn best practices in computer and network security. Individuals looking to train for a career in cybersecurity can explore certificate and degree programs, while those already in the field can build their current skill set through professional development and upskilling. We provide cybersecurity education to learners of all ages, both technical and non-technical. Young learners can start with our STEM Summer Camps and progress to our Dual Enrollment offerings for high school students.

1 - 2 Year Applied Science Degrees

Traditionally-paced coursework can lead to a 1-year Certificate of Applied Science in Computer Support, a 2-year Associate of Applied Science degree in Information Technology and Network Security as well as a CTS in Cloud Computing or Cybersecurity.

Montana Code School

If you're interested in coding, the Montana Code School offers 18-week bootcamps for either Front End or Back End Software Developers. Depending on the focus area, students learn JavaScript, SQL, HTML, CSS, and AJAX, among other skills and technologies during the three-course sequence.

STEM Summer Camps

No age is too young to start learning more about cybersecurity. Summer Cyber STEM camps for middle school students are held throughout the state, using hands-on activities to investigate topics like cryptography, password cracking, and geotagging.

Dual Enrollment

Early College courses give high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to learn the basics of cybersecurity or to earn a Certificate of Technical Studies in Cybersecurity while completing their high school studies.

With the digital world at our fingertips at nearly all times, cybersecurity knowledge is essential for Montanans of all ages. We're helping students ages 11-14 learn about cybersecurity early through our NSA Sponsored GenCyber Summer Institute.

SPOTLIGHT: Upcoming Student Opportunities

April 2026 AI & Cybersecurity Event Series

Building Cyber Skills and Connections at the University of Montana

CyberMontana is partnering with the University of Montana Cybersecurity Collective to host two AI and cybersecurity focused events in the month of April. The Cybersecurity Collective is a student organization dedicated to promoting cybersecurity education and awareness among students. All events will be held in Room 106 of the UM College of Business building.

The first event is scheduled for 5:30 to 6:45 pm on April 8, is an AI and cyber literacy workshop for college and high students focusing on every day and academic AI use. The event also features a tech demo and networking opportunities. This event is offered in partnership with the Montana Information Systems Association (MISA) student group.

The next event, on April 15 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, is a student panel and networking event. Attendees will hear from a student panel about career options in cybersecurity and the realities of working in the industry, such as professional expectations for cybersecurity staff and career pathways. Following the panel, CyberMontana will host a networking reception where attendees can connect with local IT and cybersecurity employers and leaders.

CyberMontana and the Cybersecurity Collective plan to build upon this partnership to host more informative and exciting events and opportunities throughout the year. Look for more information coming soon!
