State, Local & Tribal
Government Programs

Strengthening Montana’s cyber defenses across all government entities.

CyberMontana provides state, local, and tribal governments with cyber tools that build security awareness across their organization. Through employee security awareness training, network monitoring, and grant funding for cybersecurity training, governments can become individually more resilient and collectively elevate the state’s cybersecurity posture.

Security Awareness Training

Security Awareness Training provides employees with monthly online lessons that educate employees on current threats and best practices. Participants build the knowledge and habits needed to reduce risk, prevent common cyber mistakes, and strengthen their overall security.

Everyday Cyber Safety Clinics

Everyday Cyber Safety Clinics provide community members with easy-to-understand guidance on staying safe in today’s digital world. Through interactive presentations, hands-on device support, and practical tips, participants will leave with best practices to better protect themselves online.

Professional Cyber Safety Workshops

Cybersecurity Awareness & Readiness Workshops provide leadership, IT, and key decision-makers with an environment to prepare for cyber incidents. Participants improve communication, clarify roles, and enhance incident response capabilities.

State and Local Cyber Security Grant Program

The SLGCP provides local and tribal governments with state resources and grant funding to improve their cybersecurity posture through five major services: Security Awareness Training, workforce professional development, Endpoint Detection and Response, network monitoring, and Multifactor Authentication (MFA).

Public Infrastructure Security Cyber Education System

PISCES is a cybersecurity program designed for Montana’s small public-sector organizations (typically with 150 or fewer employees). It provides small local governments with network threat monitoring while giving University of Montana cybersecurity students hands-on experience in real-world Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst functions.

Cybersecurity Assessment Program

The University of Montana Cybersecurity Management Capstone (BMIS 472/502) partners student teams with nonprofit organizations, schools, government agencies, and small businesses to conduct comprehensive cybersecurity and risk assessments. The program is designed to provide participating organizations with an independent review of their cybersecurity posture while giving students practical consulting experience.
